The Hay-Adams, a historic 5-star hotel located in the heart of Washington, D.C., is seeking a dedicated Assistant Chief Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. Known for our refined luxury and iconic views of the White House and Lafayette Park, we pride ourselves on providing an exceptional experience for every guest. In this senior-level role, you will support our Chief Engineer in overseeing daily operations, managing our engineering staff, and ensuring our facilities meet the highest standards of excellence.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor all mechanical systems, including air handlers, refrigeration units, boilers, and emergency power equipment, while performing routine inspections to identify necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Supervise the daily activities of the engineering and painting teams, assigning work tickets and ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and the work site is left clean.
- Serve as the Acting Chief in the absence of the Chief Engineer, taking full responsibility for the department and upholding our hotel policies and safety standards.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in building maintenance and team leadership. We require the following qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED, complemented by a three-year certificate from a technical school or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficiency in the English language, with the ability to read technical manuals, write clear reports, and communicate effectively with staff and guests.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to apply basic algebra and geometry to calculate volumes, pressures, and proportions.
- The ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting up to 100 pounds, climbing, and working with mechanical equipment in various environments.
- Proven reasoning skills, allowing you to multitask, prioritize urgent issues, and remain calm under pressure.
