At Seqera, we are dedicated to helping scientists and organizations tackle the world's most pressing challenges through data-driven research. As the creators of Nextflow and the Seqera Platform, we provide the tools that enable biotech innovators, academic institutions, and global enterprises to manage complex data workflows with total confidence. We operate as a global, remote-first team with a central hub in Barcelona, and we are looking for talented individuals to help us build the future of scientific computing.
What is this role?
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Unified Compute team on a full-time, remote basis. This is a senior-level position where you will take technical ownership of the low-level systems that drive scientific workloads in the cloud. You will play a pivotal role in evolving our orchestration and scheduling ecosystem, working directly on core technologies like Fusion, Ignite, and our Sched project to ensure our infrastructure remains robust and scalable.
What will you do?
- Design and maintain critical low-level systems including FUSE filesystems, container process managers, and our cloud-native scheduling layer.
- Develop high-performance, well-tested code using Go and C, while utilizing Rust and the JVM stack where appropriate.
- Collaborate on complex architectural challenges such as multi-cloud orchestration, spot-instance fault tolerance, and performance optimization for distributed systems.
What makes you a great fit?
You are an experienced engineer who thrives when working close to the Linux operating system. You have a deep understanding of filesystems, namespaces, and process management, and you are comfortable debugging production-grade distributed systems. We value engineers who write clear, maintainable code and are capable of driving technical direction independently. Proficiency in English is essential, as is a genuine openness to integrating AI tools into your daily development workflow. Experience with Kubernetes, container runtimes, or high-performance computing environments is considered a strong advantage.
What's in it for you?
Joining our team means becoming part of a diverse, international group of professionals who are passionate about making a real impact. We support your growth and well-being through the following benefits:
- Flexible working hours to help you balance your professional and personal life.
- Equity compensation to ensure you share in our collective success.
- Comprehensive medical and life insurance coverage.
- A dedicated home office budget to ensure your workspace is comfortable.
- A mental wellness budget, including access to specialized support apps.
- An annual learning and development budget to help you sharpen your skills.
- Regular company retreats and team bonding activities to stay connected.
