Sr Engineering Manager - Grafana O11y Asserts (Remote, Spain) at Grafana Labs

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a dedicated leader to join our Asserts team, which focuses on providing automated root cause insights by scanning metrics, traces, and logs. We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager based in Spain to help guide this talented group as we scale our services to thousands of new customers.

The opportunity

In this role, you will act as a bridge between technical excellence and product strategy. The Asserts team is responsible for a set of high-performance, low-latency microservices that are vital to our mission of helping customers find value in their data without needing to become experts in complex query languages. You will lead a distributed team of engineers, fostering an environment where they can perform at their best. Your work will involve removing roadblocks, facilitating cross-team collaboration, and ensuring our services remain reliable and efficient as we expand.

A day in the life

• You will partner with product owners, UX designers, and engineering leadership to define our technical roadmap, review design documents, and ensure our features are well-defined for development.
• You will manage the release schedule while actively coaching and mentoring your direct reports through regular 1:1 meetings to support their professional growth and engagement.
• You will maintain team health by overseeing quality and availability goals, breaking down complex features into actionable tasks, and collaborating with our People Ops team to attract new talent.

Who you are

You are a seasoned professional with a strong background in software engineering, ideally holding a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. You have transitioned into management but still maintain a sharp technical edge, allowing you to engage in meaningful discussions about our stack. You are comfortable working with autonomous, highly technical teams and possess a deep understanding of the following areas:

• Proficiency with Java, which powers our Asserts services, and Go, which is used for our core databases.
• Experience with Linux environments and Git workflows.
• Familiarity with Prometheus and observability tools.
• Strong communication skills in English to collaborate effectively across our global organization.
• A bonus would be previous experience with public cloud infrastructure or Kubernetes.
