At Fractyl, our team is dedicated to developing novel therapeutic systems that combine capital equipment with disposable components. We operate as a small, cross-functional group of experienced engineers, and we are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer II to join our mission-focused, fast-paced environment. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about designing the next generation of medical devices with a strong focus on reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. You will report to the Associate Director of Engineering and work closely with our internal stakeholders to bring safe and effective products to market.
Key outcomes
- Lead the design, prototyping, and debugging of electrical hardware, ensuring robust performance through power derating and other analytical methods.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into technical system specifications while collaborating with our mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams.
- Manage risk by contributing to dFMEAs and identifying potential issues within electrical designs and overall system architecture.
- Ensure all systems comply with industry standards, specifically IEC 60601 electrical safety regulations, including coordinating testing with NRTLs.
- Develop verification plans, validate test fixtures, and author protocols to document system performance.
- Support the transition of designs into manufacturing by creating work instructions and resolving production issues in partnership with our quality and manufacturing teams.
- Perform sustaining engineering tasks to maintain and improve our existing product portfolio.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in new product research and development.
- Proficiency in PCBA design, covering schematic capture, layout, and manufacturing for analog, digital, power, and embedded microcontroller circuits.
- Experience with complex electromechanical systems, including integration and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility testing, including emissions and immunity standards.
- Technical fluency with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and signal analyzers.
- Professional proficiency in English, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation.
- A collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience within the medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Familiarity with the full product development lifecycle.
- Experience with SPICE or other simulation software.
- Background in motion control systems.
- Previous exposure to risk management processes.
Compensation
This is a full-time, on-site position based in the United States. While we do not have a specific salary range to disclose at this time, we offer a collaborative work environment where you will have the chance to contribute to impactful medical technology.
