At InfluxData, we build InfluxDB, the premier time series platform that empowers developers to analyze data in real time and uncover critical insights. We are a remote-first organization with a global team, and we are looking for a senior-level Software Engineer to join our Database Reliability and Performance team to help ensure the stability and high performance of our core platform.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage automated reliability, regression, and correctness testing within our CI/CD pipeline.
- Develop and maintain test contracts to validate query accuracy, database compactions, and system recoverability.
- Simulate complex, real-world customer workloads to test for memory exhaustion, deployments, and database restarts.
- Translate engineering specifications and root-cause analyses into repeatable test constraints in collaboration with core developers.
- Analyze performance data and system profiles to identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain system health.
- Review automated reports to detect and flag latency regressions, resource issues, or data divergence.
Must-haves
- Deep experience in Rust, or strong systems programming experience in C++ or Golang with a willingness to learn Rust.
- Proven track record in performance, regression, and reliability testing for distributed data systems.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus at least 5 years of professional experience.
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience using modern AI tools for troubleshooting, log analysis, and utility generation.
- Familiarity with CI/CD utilities such as CircleCI.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in an asynchronous, remote work environment.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience building distributed systems.
- Background working with database internals and various cloud service providers.
- Previous experience participating in on-call rotations.
- History of working within distributed teams on complex products.
