At Shef, we are on a mission to reshape how the world thinks about home cooking. We have built a vibrant marketplace that connects talented local cooks-including refugees, immigrants, and stay-at-home parents-with neighbors who are hungry for authentic, wholesome meals. By empowering these creators to earn a meaningful income doing what they love, we are fostering economic independence and cultural inclusivity in every community we touch. With over $100 million in backing from world-class investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Y Combinator, we are scaling rapidly and looking for passionate people to help us bring this vision to life.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in a full-time, hybrid capacity based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this role, you will work directly with our engineering leadership to build and refine the platforms that power our consumer shopping experience and our micro-entrepreneurship tools for shefs. You will have a rare chance to shape a consumer product that fundamentally changes how people access food, ensuring that healthy and affordable meals are available to everyone.
A day in the life
- You will design and implement new features that create delightful experiences for our customers while helping our shefs successfully manage and grow their businesses.
- You will maintain a strong focus on execution, monitoring performance and iterating quickly to solve complex technical challenges.
- You will act as a partner in product development, using data and analytics to uncover new opportunities, define requirements, and launch impactful solutions.
Who you are
You are a driven and strategic engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments. You possess at least 5 years of professional experience and are comfortable navigating the trade-offs between speed, quality, and resources that come with scaling a business. You are fluent in English and have deep technical expertise in React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL. Beyond your coding skills, you have a product-focused mindset, a desire for end-to-end ownership, and a genuine passion for building tools that empower others.
Why you'll love it here
We are deeply committed to building a team that reflects the diverse communities we serve. We offer a hybrid work environment that balances collaboration with flexibility. Joining Shef means becoming part of a mission-driven organization that values equity and inclusivity, providing you with a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of thousands of people across the country.
