At CredLens, we are building a national data trust to address the critical lack of verified outcomes for non-degree credentials. Founded in 2024 as an independent nonprofit subsidiary of the Strada Education Foundation, our mission is to provide actionable insights that drive research for industry-based, professional, and workforce credentials. We create tailored data analytics and visualizations for credential issuers, workforce training providers, and state systems to help improve credential quality and inform funding decisions. We are looking for passionate individuals to help us bridge this data gap and foster equitable pathways to opportunity.
The role
We are seeking an Engineering Team Lead to join us in a full-time, hybrid capacity. This is a critical player-coach position where you will lead a team of engineers while remaining hands-on with our core technology. You will work from our Washington, D.C. office at least two days per week, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As a lead, you will help shape our platform during its early 1.x releases, working closely with senior leadership to manage feature prioritization and software release cycles.
Core responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and foster a high-performing culture within a small team of software engineers.
- Actively contribute to the design, development, and deployment of our frontend using React and Next.js, and our backend using Python and Flask.
- Partner with product management to define, estimate, and prioritize work, ensuring we deliver high-quality software that provides significant end-user value.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with a strong technical background who is comfortable leading others. Our ideal candidate brings the following qualifications:
- At least 8 years of software development experience, including a minimum of 3 years in full-stack development.
- Proven experience leading small engineering teams, including coaching, hiring, and performance management.
- Strong proficiency in either React (ideally with TypeScript and Next.js) or Python (ideally with Flask), with solid working knowledge of the other.
- Extensive experience building and consuming RESTful APIs, along with familiarity with authorization patterns like OAuth and OIDC.
- Deep experience with PostgreSQL and SQL Alchemy.
- Familiarity with cloud services, specifically AWS.
- Strong proficiency with Git for version control.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience is highly valued.
Compensation and benefits
We are committed to supporting our team members through a flexible work environment. This role includes:
- A hybrid work model that balances collaborative in-office time with remote flexibility.
How to apply
If you are passionate about education, technology, and our mission to provide equitable pathways to opportunity, we would love to hear from you. We strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, including people of color, the global majority, individuals with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Please submit your application to be considered for this opportunity to help us shape the future of credential data.
