At Mechanical Orchard, we specialize in safely rewriting the most critical and complex business applications that keep the world running. We have observed the common failure patterns in modernization efforts for decades, and our approach is specifically designed to eliminate the risks and disruptions that typically plague these projects. We helped write the book on Agile practices, and we continue to apply that same rigor and thoughtfulness to our work today. By combining craft, expertise, and innovative technology, we are bringing joy back to IT teams and fundamentally transforming how large companies operate and innovate. We invite you to join our remote-first team as a Staff Product Designer, where you will help us do the right thing, do what works, and be kind.
What you'll be doing
- You will lead user research activities to understand legacy system usage and ensure that the new software solutions we build are effective and equivalent to what they replace.
- You will design modern software from the ground up, balancing complex business needs, technical constraints, and security requirements while maintaining a sustainable pace of delivery.
- You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate design workshops, iterate on screens in Figma, and maintain tight feedback loops with both internal and customer stakeholders.
What you'll bring
We are looking for a senior-level designer who is comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy. You should have a deep understanding of user-centered design principles and a proven ability to navigate the technical challenges of long-term software modernization. Your background should reflect a strong grasp of Agile methodologies and a commitment to continuous improvement. Because we work in a distributed environment, clear and effective communication is essential. While not required, experience or interest in front-end development using HTML and Tailwind CSS is a great asset to have. You must be proficient in English to collaborate effectively with our global team and our clients.
What you'll get
As a member of our team, you will enjoy the freedom and flexibility of a remote work environment. We are a remote-first company, meaning you can work from anywhere, though you can expect occasional travel for company meetings or client visits about once or twice a year. We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals are respected and valued, and we provide reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities.
