We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Lincoln, Nebraska, on a full-time, on-site basis. At LI-COR, we specialize in creating advanced instrumentation, and this role is central to our mission of developing high-quality mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems. You will work within a collaborative, multi-disciplined environment where you will help define product architecture, engage directly with marketing and users, and lead mechanical development efforts from initial concept through to final production.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and testing of mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems while collaborating with a diverse team of engineers.
- Use 3D CAD software to create parts and assemblies, build and troubleshoot prototypes, and manage the integration of these systems into our final products.
- Act as a project or team leader to guide mechanical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure successful product launches.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in mechanical engineering and a passion for technical problem-solving. We require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- At least 7 years of experience with a BS degree, or 5 years with an MS degree, specifically focused on mechanical design for electronic instrumentation.
- Proven expertise in 3D CAD, electronics packaging, and enclosure design, along with experience in mechanical testing methods like thermal, vibration, and stress analysis.
- A demonstrated ability to lead projects independently, mentor team members, and communicate complex technical concepts effectively in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to network, present technical ideas, and work effectively with both internal teams and external customers.
What we offer
We provide a dynamic work environment where you can take ownership of significant engineering projects. While this is an on-site position based in Lincoln, NE, you will have the opportunity to engage in occasional travel to better understand customer applications and project requirements. We value initiative, creativity, and a collaborative spirit, and we are committed to supporting your professional growth as you help us build the next generation of LI-COR products.
