At Adept we are advancing a people-centric approach to AI by building models that interact with software and complete tasks the way people do. Our recent $350 million Series B, following a $65 million Series A, is backed by General Catalyst, Spark, Addition, Greylock, and strategic partners including Atlassian, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Workday. This support fuels our work on large-scale multimodal models that power digital agents and keeps us focused on solving the hardest infrastructure problems in service of that mission.
The role
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure team on a full-time, on-site basis in our San Francisco office. In this position you will help design, operate, and optimize some of the largest GPU clusters used to train state-of-the-art models, directly accelerating how quickly we can iterate on new agent capabilities.
Core responsibilities
- Build and manage large GPU clusters that train frontier multimodal models, ensuring high availability and performance at every scale.
- Improve cluster utilization and reliability through targeted optimizations in hardware configuration, networking, and software tooling.
- Partner closely with research teams to align model architecture decisions with training-system constraints so that new ideas move from concept to production faster.
Skills and experience
- Eight or more years of software-engineering experience, with a track record of end-to-end ownership at fast-growing companies or startups.
- Deep knowledge of GPU-cluster hardware, performance characteristics, and high-speed interconnects.
- Hands-on experience with distributed-training frameworks and libraries such as torch.distributed, NCCL, and MPI.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across research and engineering teams.
- Comfort working in a startup environment where priorities shift quickly and learning happens by doing.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary range for this position in California is $175,000 to $350,000 per year. In addition we offer competitive equity in the form of stock options and a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100 percent covered medical, dental, and vision insurance, unlimited vacation for exempt employees, four remote work weeks each year, 24 weeks of paid parental leave, a monthly wellness stipend, daily meals in the San Francisco office, commuter benefits, and a dog-friendly workplace.
How to apply
If this mission and the problems we are tackling resonate with you, we encourage you to apply. We value engineers who bring curiosity, ownership, and a collaborative mindset, and we welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds.
