Are you ready to shape technology that helps protect and restore forests at a global scale? Join us at Pachama, where satellite imaging and artificial intelligence power a marketplace that connects responsible companies and individuals with high-quality forest carbon projects. Backed by investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Amazon Climate Fund, and Paul Graham, we combine rigorous science with scalable engineering to address climate change.
What you bring
As a Senior Software Engineer on a full-time remote basis, you will lead development of the core platform that delivers AI-driven insights from multi-terabyte geospatial datasets. Your work will focus on remote sensing, scalable data systems, and intuitive interfaces that help users evaluate and support nature-based carbon projects. We are looking for someone with senior-level experience who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment and is comfortable working within a three-hour offset of Pacific time.
- Build and maintain the systems that give interdisciplinary teams and customers access to our geospatial and remote sensing technologies.
- Lead cross-functional projects, set technical direction, and mentor teammates on clean code, documentation, and best practices.
- Write, optimize, and deploy production code that keeps our infrastructure efficient while handling large volumes of scientific data.
This role is fully remote, with a preference for candidates located within three hours of Pacific time.
Requirements
We seek engineers who bring strong software-engineering fundamentals along with hands-on experience in Python, Postgres, PostGIS, and GraphQL. Familiarity with React and TypeScript is valued, as is prior work building scalable APIs and cloud infrastructure on GCP, Heroku, or Kubernetes. You should be comfortable leading large, cross-team initiatives, writing clear documentation, and iterating quickly in a startup setting. A genuine passion for environmental sustainability and a collaborative mindset are essential. While not required, experience with distributed compute frameworks such as Dask or Flyte, data pipelines for machine-learning workloads, or exposure to carbon markets is a plus. We welcome applicants from varied backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every listed qualification.
What we offer
In addition to competitive compensation, we provide the flexibility of remote work so you can contribute from anywhere while staying connected with colleagues across time zones.
