At Thalo, we are tackling the massive challenge of HVAC inefficiency, which leads to billions in wasted energy and costly emergency repairs every year. Our mission is to modernize this industry by using advanced sensing and AI-powered intelligence to turn static equipment into high-performance, self-monitoring systems. Our team is composed of innovators who have previously built self-driving cars, designed space missions for NASA, and developed satellite imagery at Google. We are united by a singular goal: to leverage the built environment to decarbonize the planet and accelerate global climate drawdown.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in our midtown Manhattan office. This is a senior-level position where you will serve as a hands-on builder, working closely with our leadership to execute our software roadmap. Because software is our primary product, you will play a critical role in defining how our platform functions and how we integrate machine learning models into our core offerings.
Core responsibilities
- Own and execute our software product strategy in close collaboration with our hardware, leadership, and go-to-market teams.
- Architect and develop AI-enabled HVAC monitoring and analytics products that provide automated, actionable insights to our customers.
- Research, develop, and deploy machine learning models into production environments while building robust infrastructure for large-scale data ingestion and analysis.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of experience in software engineering who is comfortable working within our primary tech stack, which includes React, TypeScript, Python, Pandas, Django, Terraform, and AWS. You should possess the following qualifications:
- Professional experience within a hardware-driven ecosystem, such as IoT devices, robotics, or autonomous vehicles.
- A proven track record of developing, deploying, and managing data-intensive, large-scale web applications.
- Practical experience researching and implementing machine learning models for customer-facing products.
- Bonus points if you have a background in distributed systems, containerized microservices, or a degree in Computer Science.
Compensation and benefits
We offer an annual base salary ranging from $140,000 to $180,000, with a compensation structure that places a strong emphasis on high equity. Our benefits package includes:
- National subsidized healthcare plans covering medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- A 401(k) program to help you plan for your future.
- Paid time off and 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
- A collaborative, in-person culture featuring a stocked pantry, weekly happy hours, and quarterly offsites.
How to apply
We are dedicated to building an inclusive environment and strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply, especially those from underrepresented communities. Even if you do not meet every single requirement listed, we would still love to hear from you. Please reach out to our team to start a conversation about how your skills can help us fight climate change.
