Redwire accelerates humanity’s expansion into space by delivering reliable, economical and sustainable infrastructure for future generations. Redwire Space Luxembourg develops robotic systems and mechanisms that support in-space satellite servicing, active debris removal, lunar surface operations and commercial space stations. Our engineering team in Luxembourg sits at the crossroads of the European and American commercial space sectors, where innovation, heritage and multicultural collaboration converge. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen our growing group and contribute to the next wave of space robotics projects.
Key outcomes
- Design rotary mechanisms, structures and precision components for space-rated robotic manipulators, gimbals and related systems destined for orbital and lunar environments.
- Collaborate daily with electrical, robotics and systems engineers to integrate complex electromechanical assemblies while balancing cost, schedule and performance targets.
- Optimise mechanical layouts through analysis and testing, driving measurable gains in reliability and efficiency.
- Produce 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, technical assembly documentation and project-level records using CAD tools and geometric dimensioning standards.
- Select materials, specify components and manage procurement to meet stringent space environmental requirements.
- Build and evaluate fast prototypes, then lead or support functional, thermal, vibrational and environmental testing campaigns.
- Conduct design reviews that confirm manufacturability, ease of assembly and full system functionality before production release.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing expertise to raise overall team capability and performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience as a mechanical design engineer, including at least three years focused on space mechanisms.
- Demonstrated background in precision engineering within the aerospace sector and hands-on laboratory work.
- Proven track record completing at least one full development cycle that encompassed design, integration and testing.
- Direct experience creating precise space mechanisms such as joints, coupling devices, solar array drive mechanisms, antenna pointing mechanisms or hold-down release mechanisms.
- Strong CAD proficiency, evidenced through a portfolio or practical modelling evaluations, with fluency in Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge of Ansys and Matlab for thermal, vibrational and stress analyses.
- Experience applying Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly and cost-optimisation principles.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to relocate to Luxembourg and provide a criminal record certificate issued within the last six months.
Compensation
We provide a competitive salary, complementary health insurance, a lunch card and a personalised training plan designed to accelerate professional growth. Additional development programmes are available to support continuous learning and career advancement.
How to apply
If your background aligns with the requirements outlined above, we invite you to submit your application. Candidates who are uncertain whether they meet every criterion are still encouraged to apply and to explain in their cover letter how their experience matches the needs of the role. We look forward to reviewing your materials and exploring how you can contribute to our mission of building above.
