Principal Research Engineer, Generative AI at SoundHound AI

At SoundHound AI we create Voice AI products that let people talk naturally to the technology around them. Our conversational systems power in-car assistants, restaurant ordering platforms, and other applications across more than two dozen languages. We are now looking for a Principal Research Engineer to guide the next wave of generative-AI advances that will make these interactions even more intelligent and context-aware.

Responsibilities

• Lead original research in generative AI, concentrating on natural language understanding, dialogue generation, and context-aware conversational systems that directly improve our products.
• Design and train large-scale deep-learning models, then integrate the resulting advances into production through close collaboration with machine-learning engineers, software developers, and product managers.
• Mentor junior researchers and engineers while staying current with the latest developments in the field and continuously enhancing our technology stack.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science and at least eight years of full-time industry experience in relevant domains.
• Demonstrated success conducting impactful research and development in generative AI, evidenced by publications and projects.
• Expert-level proficiency with deep-learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, plus hands-on experience training large-scale models.
• In-depth knowledge of natural language processing techniques, including pre-trained language models, text generation, and dialogue systems.
• Strong Python programming skills and the ability to implement and optimize AI models.
• Proven capacity to solve complex technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions in conversational AI.
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities for effective cross-functional collaboration.

What we offer

The salary range for this position is $202,000 - $268,000. In addition to salary, you will receive equity compensation in the form of SOUN stock, comprehensive medical insurance, paid time off, and the flexibility of hybrid or remote work arrangements.
