At Hgen, our mission is to secure a sustainable energy future by eliminating emissions in industries that are traditionally difficult to decarbonize. We are focused on making green hydrogen both affordable and abundant, which is a vital step toward addressing the 25 percent of global emissions that rely on this technology. By joining our team, you will contribute directly to the development and commercialization of our advanced alkaline electrolyzer, helping us build a cleaner world.
The role
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. This is a senior-level position where you will take ownership of our electrolysis cell, stack, and system components. You will guide these parts through every stage of development, from initial lab-scale prototypes to full-scale production systems, using your creativity to ensure our designs are reliable, simple, and ready for manufacturing.
Core responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the design and development process for our electrolyzer components, covering everything from the cell and stack to the balance of plant.
- Serve as the chief engineer by collaborating across research and engineering teams to identify the most effective and elegant design solutions.
- Influence our system-level architecture by balancing component capabilities and potential vulnerabilities to lower the overall cost of hydrogen production.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and a passion for solving complex problems. We require the following qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the design and analysis of complex mechanical systems.
- A deep understanding of solid mechanics and the fundamental principles governing fluid and gas systems.
- Proficiency in design for manufacturing, including work with various metals and polymers.
- Hands-on experience with high-pressure fluid, gas, or high-voltage systems.
- A proven track record of rapid iterative prototyping and bringing products through the new product introduction cycle.
- Excellent project management abilities and the capacity to communicate technical concepts clearly across multidisciplinary teams.
- A commitment to first-principles decision making and a genuine drive to address climate change.
Compensation and benefits
We offer a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment where your work has a direct impact on our mission. While we do not have specific salary figures to list at this time, we provide a dynamic workplace that values technical excellence and holistic system optimization.
How to apply
If you are passionate about decarbonization and possess the engineering expertise to help us scale our technology, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application to be considered for this opportunity to help us build the future of green hydrogen.
