The role

We are hiring a Principal Applied Research Scientist AI on a full-time basis. This senior-level position is open to candidates located anywhere and will be performed entirely remotely.

Core responsibilities

• Lead applied research programs that create new NLP and generative-AI algorithms with measurable impact on our platform and customers.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to embed these AI capabilities into production services and validate them through prototypes and live deployments.
• Publish findings, secure patents, and mentor junior researchers while keeping the team current on advances in machine learning, deep learning, and computational linguistics.

Skills and experience

You hold a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related discipline, and you have a demonstrated record of research in NLP and generative AI through publications, patents, or released software. You write production-grade Python and are fluent with TensorFlow or PyTorch. Hands-on experience curating datasets, training and evaluating models (including deep, reinforcement, and unsupervised learning), and measuring post-deployment performance is essential. Excellent problem-solving ability and clear communication skills-both written and verbal-are required so you can explain complex methods to colleagues from varied backgrounds. Preferred qualifications include postdoctoral or industry AI research experience, contributions to open-source projects, building scalable solutions in cloud environments, and prior work applying large language models to non-conversational or legal use cases. Proficiency in English is necessary for day-to-day collaboration.

Compensation and benefits

The annual gross base salary range for this position is $172,000 to $215,000. In addition to base pay, the role is eligible for an annual performance bonus.
