The opportunity

We are searching for a Lead Product Designer to help us define the soul of BuzzFeed Island. You will sit at the intersection of product strategy and creative execution, working directly with our founder and CEO to shape how users explore and create within our digital spaces. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in our New York City or Los Angeles offices. You will be responsible for ensuring that our AI-powered tools feel intuitive, playful, and deeply social, helping us transform the way people express themselves online.

A day in the life

• You will architect the end-to-end user experience, crafting fluid flows that make discovering and personalizing dynamic media feel like second nature to our users.
• You will partner closely with our AI engineers to ensure that complex generative tools remain accessible, fun, and engaging rather than technical or overwhelming.
• You will lead design strategy across cross-functional teams, advocating for high-quality, interactive interfaces that encourage users to remix content and collaborate in real time.

Who you are

You are a seasoned designer with a passion for building creative, social, or game-like experiences. You understand that great design is not just about how things look, but how they function as a cohesive system.

• You bring over 7 years of product design experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
• Your portfolio demonstrates a mastery of UI/UX, specifically within consumer-facing social apps or creative toolsets.
• You are an expert in Figma and modern prototyping tools, with a strong mobile-first mindset and deep knowledge of iOS design principles.
• You are a systems thinker who thrives when collaborating with engineers and researchers to solve complex problems.
• You have a genuine excitement for AI and its potential to push the boundaries of digital self-expression.
