SkyBox Labs is a premier game development studio recognized as one of British Columbia's top employers. Since our start in 2011, we have grown from a small team of eight to a vibrant community of over 270 professionals. We are proud to contribute to some of the most iconic titles in the industry, including Halo Infinite, Destiny, and the Minecraft universe, while also developing our own original intellectual property. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a Lead Game Designer to join our team and help shape the future of our player experiences. Whether you work from our Burnaby studio or remotely from within Canada, you will be part of a collaborative culture that values creativity and professional growth.
What you'll be doing
- Provide clear design direction and support to your team, ensuring every project meets our high standards for quality and aligns with our core objectives.
- Take a hands-on approach to conceptualizing and prototyping innovative gameplay features, iterating quickly to refine mechanics and identify what makes a game truly fun.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a talented group of designers while maintaining comprehensive documentation that keeps cross-functional partners, such as artists and engineers, aligned and informed.
What you'll bring
- At least 10 years of professional experience in game design, with a strong background in FPS or third-person action titles.
- A proven track record of shipping at least two titles, including at least one project that you saw through from initial concept to final release.
- Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to pivot between high-level project management and hands-on individual contribution as needed.
- Strong communication skills in English, allowing you to effectively present ideas and gather feedback across diverse, cross-functional teams.
- A relentless drive for problem-solving and a deep understanding of modern game design principles.
What you'll get
The base salary for this role ranges from $119,000 to $164,000, depending on your specific qualifications and experience.
- Flexible hybrid and remote work arrangements to support your work-life balance.
- Comprehensive health benefits and an employee assistance program to support your mental well-being.
- Paid time off to ensure you have time to recharge.
- Access to a free gym membership at our Burnaby studio.
- Dedicated professional development opportunities, including our internal SkyBox University and various learning programs.
