The role
We are seeking a Head of Editorial for North America and Europe to join our team in New York. This is a full-time, executive-level position that requires an on-site presence from Monday through Thursday. You will lead our efforts to tell the stories behind the most beautiful objects in human history, working alongside a talented content team with backgrounds from prestigious media and culture brands. You will report directly to the Global Head of Content.
Core responsibilities
- Direct the editorial calendar for our New York, London, and Paris offices, ensuring our content effectively supports hundreds of annual auctions and selling exhibitions.
- Assign, edit, and publish high-quality articles on Sothebys.com, including market analysis, collecting guides, and cultural trend features that resonate with our audience.
- Manage the weekly Sotheby’s Selects email newsletter and partner with our Growth team to optimize performance metrics and refine our overall editorial strategy.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess a deep understanding of the fine art and luxury markets, along with the following qualifications:
- At least 8 years of professional experience in writing and editing, with a proven ability to manage freelance networks and editorial budgets.
- Expertise in SEO, CMS platforms, and analytics tools like Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies that drive business outcomes.
- Excellent organizational abilities, particularly when managing complex projects across multiple international offices.
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, art history, English, communications, or a related field.
- A creative mindset, a strong point of view, and the ability to collaborate effectively with specialists across our global departments.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $135,000. In addition to the base salary, you will be eligible for a discretionary bonus and a competitive benefits package. Final offers are determined based on a variety of factors, including your specific skills, experience, and relevant qualifications.
