We are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team of over 70 professionals at Colby Co. Engineering. As a privately held firm, we specialize in a diverse range of projects including new construction, infrastructure, and historical renovations, and we take pride in being recognized as one of Maine’s top ten places to work for six consecutive years.
Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive fire protection engineering designs, including fire alarm, sprinkler, and special hazard systems.
- Perform detailed building and life safety code analysis for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.
- Manage mass notification system designs.
- Oversee design quality control and provide construction administration support.
- Collaborate effectively within a fluid, multi-disciplinary team to solve complex problems under tight deadlines.
Must-haves
- At least 3 years of experience in building and industrial design within a consulting engineering firm.
- Proven expertise in Life Safety Code consulting, performance-based design, and fire protection system design.
- Comprehensive understanding of how fire protection systems integrate with other building systems.
- Successful completion of the FE exam.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to obtain government security clearances.
Nice-to-haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and modeling software such as HydraCAD.
- Experience with sustainable design practices.
