At Shield AI, our core mission is to safeguard the lives of service members and civilians through the power of intelligent systems. Our Hardware Test Engineering team plays a vital role in this goal by creating sophisticated test solutions that ensure the high reliability of our V-BAT aircraft. We build our own electrical and mechanical equipment to put components and systems through their paces, testing them in both standard environments and simulated harsh conditions. We are looking for a dedicated engineer to join our team in the United States and help us deliver the most reliable aerospace hardware in the industry.
The opportunity
As a Senior Electrical Test & Rapid Prototype Engineer, you will be at the heart of our hardware development process. You will take ownership of the full lifecycle of test stands, from gathering requirements to final validation. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working across multiple disciplines, as you will design systems for power electronics, RF, and communications. You will be a key contributor to our cross-functional design reviews, where you will advocate for smarter, simpler testing processes that directly impact the quality of our final products.
A day in the life
- You will design and build test stands and fixtures that incorporate relays, PLCs, custom PCBAs, and complex harnessing to evaluate our subsystems.
- You will write Python scripts to automate test sequences, ensuring our hardware meets rigorous reliability standards.
- You will design custom PCBs that act as the vital interface between our test stands and the devices we are evaluating.
Who you are
You are an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and taking full ownership of your work. You communicate clearly in English and possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering, mechanical concepts, physics, and mathematics. We value candidates who have a history of delivering results on multidisciplinary hardware projects, whether those experiences came from professional roles, academic clubs, or personal passion projects.
Ideally, you bring the following skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for automation.
- Experience with PCB schematic and layout tools like Altium, KiCAD, or Eagle.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA.
- A proven ability to innovate under pressure and adapt to the dynamic demands of an aerospace environment.
Why you'll love it here
We are a team that values hard work, integrity, and kindness. By joining us, you will have the chance to gain deep expertise in HASS, ESS, and HALT testing while contributing to technology that truly makes a difference. We offer a collaborative environment where you are encouraged to hold yourself and your teammates to high standards, all while working on cutting-edge aerospace systems that save lives.
