We're building the future of learning at Quizlet, where tens of millions of students engage with over two billion learning interactions every month. Our $1B+ platform already reaches two-thirds of U.S. high schoolers and half of U.S. college students, and we're now investing heavily in AI to turn that scale into deeply personalized experiences. As Director of Engineering for Personalization & Recommendation, you'll shape the core intelligence that connects every learner with the right content at the right moment.

Your impact

- Own the technical and strategic roadmap for all personalization and recommendation efforts, directly influencing key metrics such as engaged learners, subscriber conversion, and revenue growth.
- Drive development of "User 360," synthesizing behavioral signals, explicit inputs, and conversation history into rich profiles and embeddings that power matching and ranking across Search, Ads, and the content feed.
What you'll need
We look for a leader with a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field, plus at least fifteen years of software engineering experience and four or more years managing machine-learning-focused engineering teams. You bring a track record of shipping large-scale recommendation, search, or personalization systems that moved business outcomes, along with deep expertise in ranking models, collaborative filtering, deep learning, and representation learning. Success in hiring, developing, and retaining top engineering talent, plus the ability to translate business goals into clear technical plans, rounds out the profile.
