Director, Engineering - AI at Sprout Social

We are building the next generation of AI capabilities at Sprout Social, where our platform processes over one billion social messages daily for more than 30,000 brands. As Director, Engineering - AI you will lead the teams that design and deliver the machine learning systems powering smarter publishing, engagement, and customer care tools across our entire product suite.

Responsibilities

• Build and execute the company-wide AI strategy while reporting to the VP of Engineering.
• Form, coach, and scale high-performing teams of data scientists and engineers that deliver production-grade AI and ML products.
• Partner with product management and design leaders to align technical roadmaps with business goals and customer needs.
• Guide architectural decisions for scalable, reliable, distributed AI platforms used across the full customer base.
• Establish hiring plans, refine team processes, and foster a culture of continuous feedback and career growth.
• Evangelize the AI vision internally and externally, translating complex technical concepts for stakeholders at every level.

Must-haves

• Seven or more years developing and supporting AI products in production environments.
• Five or more years managing and leading data science teams.
• Deep technical expertise designing, implementing, and maintaining modern AI models and platforms.
• Strong English communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience scaling teams through hiring and coaching of engineering managers, data scientists, and ML engineers.
• Track record aligning diverse stakeholders to deliver high-impact work across complex product suites.
• Hands-on background building enterprise distributed applications with Python, Java, or similar technologies.
• Experience deploying, managing, and serving machine learning models at scale.
• Familiarity with generative AI solutions, including open-source frameworks and third-party APIs such as OpenAI.

Benefits

Base salary ranges from $260,000 to $300,000 USD annually depending on location and experience.
