The Athletic is a digital sports media company that connects fans to their favorite teams and leagues through immersive storytelling and a community of over 600 creators. We are looking for a creative and motivated Editorial Designer to join our visuals team and help shape the way our audience experiences sports journalism.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with our editorial team to elevate articles, newsletters, social media content, and audio experiences using custom artwork and templates.
- Design bespoke hero images for stories and social posts on a daily basis by blending photography, typography, and vector elements.
- Manage and audit our library of editorial and social templates, ensuring they remain current and creating new ones as needed.
- Oversee the commissioning of freelance illustrators to produce original artwork for our podcast network.
Must-haves
- Between 1 and 4 years of professional design experience within a newsroom, agency, or similar creative environment.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- A passion for visual journalism and a solid understanding of the sports landscape.
- Availability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, specifically from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Practical experience or skills in data visualization.
- Proficiency in motion design.
Benefits
