Design Lead at VRChat

At VRChat we build a first-of-its-kind social platform that lets people create and share immersive VR worlds and avatars with a global community. More than 250,000 worlds are already live, and we have raised $100 million with backing from Makers Fund, Anthos Capital, and HTC. Our team includes talent from Netflix, Twitter, Meta, Microsoft, Roblox, Google, Amazon, Unity, Spotify, Discord, Uber, eBay, Robinhood, Twitch, Zynga, and TikTok. We are looking for a Design Lead who is ready to shape the next chapter of creator tools and help define how people express themselves in social VR.

What you'll be doing

• Lead design strategy and hands-on execution for creator-facing products such as the VRChat Creator Companion, guiding intuitive workflows that let creators build, monetize, and share avatars and worlds across VR, mobile, and other platforms.
• Shape the long-term vision for the creator ecosystem by researching user needs, defining segmentation, and turning insights into scalable resources, guidelines, and learning materials that support expression and monetization.
• Mentor and grow a team of designers while collaborating with the VP of Design, Creators group leads, and the executive team to champion design thinking and ensure creator priorities are represented across the company.

What you'll bring

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years of experience in a design-lead role at a high-growth, consumer-facing company, ideally within a fast-paced startup environment.
• A proven record of both strategic leadership and hands-on contribution, including success leading high-performing design teams.
• A portfolio that demonstrates breadth in design leadership and execution, ideally with a focus on creator experiences and tools.
• Deep knowledge of design principles, current industry trends, and emerging technologies, especially cross-platform, spatial, and 3D interfaces.
• Strong communication skills that allow you to explain design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with social or immersive platforms is preferred, along with the ability to manage time, navigate ambiguity, and drive focus in a dynamic setting.
• Fluency in English.
