We are looking for a Design Director to lead our design team at VRChat, a platform that powers social VR experiences for millions and has raised $100M with backing from Makers Fund, Anthos Capital, and HTC.
Responsibilities
- Lead design operations in partnership with the VP of Design and Head of Production to keep the team running efficiently and delivering high-quality work.
- Run design reviews, critiques, and sprints to maintain consistent processes across the team.
- Mentor designers and build a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Shape strategic direction and design vision in alignment with company goals.
- Track industry trends and emerging technologies to guide our approach to design excellence.
- Partner with product management and engineering to deliver intuitive, engaging user interfaces.
- Promote design thinking across the organization.
Must-haves
- 5+ years in a senior design leadership role with direct management experience, ideally in a high-growth consumer company or fast-paced startup.
- Proven success building and leading high-performing design teams.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating leadership across product design, branding, and user interfaces.
- Deep knowledge of design principles, current trends, and emerging technologies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain design concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing for cross-platform products, including spatial and 3D environments.
- Experience creating, maintaining, and governing design systems and UI frameworks.
