Design Director at VRChat

The role

We are hiring a Design Director on a full-time, remote basis. This senior leadership position calls for an experienced design leader who will guide our design organization, strengthen operational excellence, and help define the visual and experiential direction of our growing platform.

Core responsibilities

• Lead design operations in partnership with the VP of Design and Head of Production, ensuring the team runs efficiently while upholding a consistently high quality bar.
• Oversee design reviews, critiques, and sprint processes to maintain clear workflows and support a high-functioning, collaborative design practice.
• Mentor and inspire designers, cultivating a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and cross-functional partnership with product and engineering teams.

Skills and experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years in a senior design leadership role that included people management, ideally within a high-growth consumer company or fast-paced startup.
• Proven success building and leading high-performing design teams, with a portfolio that demonstrates leadership across product design, branding, and user interfaces.
• Deep knowledge of contemporary design principles, methodologies, and emerging technologies, including spatial and 3D environments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate design vision to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience creating, maintaining, and governing robust design systems and UI frameworks is highly valued.
• Fluency in English is required.
