We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Data Science Manager (Marketing) to lead our data initiatives in a high-growth environment. In this role you will shape our data strategy, foster a data-driven culture, and build the infrastructure and insights that support our continued success as a leading African fintech. You will collaborate closely with our Marketing team and guide a dedicated group of data professionals to execute and refine our marketing strategy while defining the future roadmap.
Key outcomes
- Lead the development of a world-class data science and analytics function, setting standards for excellence and defining what success looks like.
- Hire, coach, and retain a high-performing team of data professionals who deliver measurable impact across the organisation.
- Champion rigorous experimentation, including A/B testing and advanced frameworks, to guide product development and business decisions.
- Oversee the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable data pipelines that support marketing and broader business needs.
- Generate actionable insights through model development and productionisation, including Marketing Mix Models, channel attribution, customer engagement analysis, and share-of-wallet metrics.
- Partner with marketing, product, and engineering leaders to ensure the right data is collected and used to drive strategic decisions.
Requirements
- At least eight years of overall experience in data science or analytics, including a minimum of two years in management or data leadership roles, with demonstrated strength in strategy, execution, and team development.
- Proven expertise in experimentation methodologies and A/B testing frameworks, including multivariate testing, geo-holdouts, and variance reduction techniques.
- Hands-on experience designing and architecting data pipelines using ETL and ELT processes, particularly on cloud platforms such as Clickhouse and BigQuery.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to select the appropriate tool for each task and guide others in doing the same.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the capacity to explain complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Experience working with marketing and advertising data from platforms such as Facebook.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in the fintech sector or other high-growth, data-intensive industries.
- Familiarity with additional data tools and technologies relevant to marketing analytics and experimentation.
