At Topaz Labs we develop and deploy generative AI models that improve the visual quality of images and videos for more than one million paying customers, including teams at Apple, Netflix, and NASA. As the first engineering hire in our AI research lab, you will help scale our training infrastructure and production systems so that our technology can reach every image and video that needs it. We are profitable, maintain an infinite runway, and promote from within, giving you the opportunity to shape both our technical direction and your own career trajectory.
Key outcomes
- Design and maintain algorithmic visual data pipelines that feed large-scale training jobs for image and video enhancement models.
- Build and optimize training infrastructure so that new models move from research prototype to production deployment with minimal friction.
- Apply performance optimization techniques, including multithreading, to accelerate data processing and model inference workloads.
- Collaborate daily with deep-learning researchers to translate novel algorithms into reliable, maintainable codebases.
- Establish MLOps best practices that improve reproducibility, monitoring, and continuous integration for our growing suite of AI products.
Requirements
- At least three years of professional experience in computer vision, machine learning engineering, or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience optimizing software performance through multithreading or similar techniques.
- Practical experience developing and deploying computer vision models in production environments.
- Familiarity with MLOps workflows and dataset curation at scale.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and C or C++.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with perceptron-based models applied to computer vision tasks.
- Background in backend service development.
- Direct experience with OpenCV, FFmpeg, or other media-processing libraries.
- Exposure to model optimization for local, on-device inference.
- Personal interest in photography or videography.
Compensation
We provide a competitive base salary along with equity that scales with company growth. Benefits include 100 percent coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees, 15 days of annual paid time off, five personal days, paid holidays, and 401k matching.
How to apply
