At OXMAN we fuse design, technology, and biology to create multi-scale products and environments that reconnect human-made systems with the living world. Our work spans client projects and long-term platform technologies, always guided by the belief that design can advance both humanity and Nature when the two are treated as one integrated whole. We are now inviting a Computational Designer to join our interdisciplinary studio in the United States and help shape the computational methods that make such integration possible.
Key outcomes
- Develop computational design processes, digital embodiments, pipelines, and tools that explore mediation across biomimetic, biointegrated, and biosynthetic systems.
- Produce prototypes, models, and pre-visualizations that guide internal decision-making and clarify emerging design directions.
- Conduct targeted research in computational geometry, fabrication, intelligence, or dynamics, then translate findings into project-specific or studio-wide workflows.
- Implement novel computational methods that generate tangible outputs such as 3D models, fabrication instructions, machine interfaces, and custom software.
- Create high-quality 3D renderings and illustrations that communicate research concepts to colleagues, clients, and external audiences.
- Collaborate daily with engineers, biologists, and fellow designers, presenting progress clearly in meetings and creative reviews.
Requirements
- At least four years of professional experience within a design, production, or architecture studio.
- A portfolio that demonstrates inventive thinking and refined aesthetic judgment.
- Expert command of digital modeling environments such as SideFX Houdini, Rhino, Grasshopper, or Cinema 4D.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++ for custom tool development and automation.
- Research experience in computational geometry, fabrication, intelligence, dynamics, or closely related fields.
- Working knowledge of university-level linear algebra and multivariable calculus.
- Strong grounding in the artistic principles of composition, form, and color.
- Demonstrated ability to work constructively with colleagues and external partners while upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with real-time platforms such as TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, or Unity.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $75,000–$225,000. In addition to base compensation, the role includes variable year-end bonuses, comprehensive benefits, immigration assistance where applicable, and equity participation.
