At OXMAN, we operate as a hybrid design and research company that merges the worlds of biology, technology, and design to create products and environments at every scale. We believe that the current human-centric approach to design has distanced us from the natural world. Our mission is to shift toward a nature-centric philosophy, where we develop solutions that work with the environment rather than against it. By fostering a radical synergy between human-made structures and nature-grown systems, we aim to move beyond simple maintenance and toward the active advancement of the natural world.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Computational Designer to join our interdisciplinary team on a full-time, on-site basis. This role is for a deep thinker and maker who views computation as a language to bridge the gap between digital, biological, and physical environments. You will bring both aesthetic rigor and technical expertise to our research and design projects, helping us develop novel paradigms that challenge traditional design boundaries.
Core responsibilities
- Develop sophisticated computational design pipelines, tools, and embodiments that facilitate mediation across biosynthetic, biointegrated, and biomimetic systems.
- Conduct high-level research in fields such as computational geometry, dynamics, intelligence, or fabrication to support and guide our project-specific design processes.
- Create compelling prototypes, 3D models, and visualizations to communicate complex design concepts and decision-making strategies to our team, our clients, and the public.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in design or architecture and a passion for generative processes. We require the following qualifications:
- At least 4 years of professional experience in a production, architecture, or design studio.
- Mastery of industry-standard digital tools, specifically Houdini, Rhino, and Cinema 4D.
- Advanced proficiency in programming with Python or C++.
- A deep understanding of university-level multivariable calculus and linear algebra.
- A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional design taste and the ability to think outside the box.
- Experience conducting research in computational dynamics, intelligence, or related fields.
- A solid grasp of artistic fundamentals, including color, form, and composition.
- Fluency in English to facilitate clear communication within our multidisciplinary team.
Compensation and benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $225,000 USD, depending on your specific experience, skills, and organizational needs. In addition to base pay, our compensation package includes:
- Equity compensation.
- Year-end performance bonuses.
- Comprehensive benefits and immigration assistance.
How to apply
Please note that this position is always active. We review applications on an ongoing basis as our team grows and our project needs evolve. If you are ready to contribute to our mission of uniting the human-made with the natural world, we encourage you to submit your application for consideration.
