Camera Technical Lead at Zipline

At Zipline, we are on a mission to transform how the world moves goods. We build and operate an autonomous delivery system designed to provide equitable access to essential supplies, from life-saving medical products in Rwanda and Ghana to home deliveries in the United States. By leveraging robotics and autonomy, we are reducing road congestion and fossil fuel consumption while building a more resilient global supply chain. We are currently looking for a Camera Technical Lead to join our team in a full-time, on-site capacity. In this role, you will be the primary expert responsible for defining, building, and integrating vision hardware into our drones, ensuring our perception systems can safely navigate shared airspace and provide a seamless delivery experience for our customers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical and leadership authority for all perception cameras, overseeing the design, development, and mass-production scaling of camera and optical hardware for our P2 platform.
• Manage our relationships with contract manufacturing partners to ensure successful build execution, effective end-of-line screening, and precise camera calibration.
• Drive complex engineering tradeoffs across optical, mechanical, electrical, and ISP domains while establishing the best practices that will define our next-generation camera systems.

Requirements

• A Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Over 10 years of experience taking camera hardware modules from initial concept through to mass production within a global supply chain.
• Deep expertise in core camera design principles, including optics, image sensors, illumination, and image signal processing.
• Proven ability to manage high-volume manufacturing processes, including line automation, reliability testing, and statistical data analysis.
• A willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to collaborate with our engineering and manufacturing partners.

What we offer

The starting cash range for this position is $180,000 - $225,000, with the final offer determined by your specific experience, qualifications, and impact. In addition to your salary, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
