At Hot Topic, we live and breathe pop culture. Our team is driven by a shared passion for creativity and high performance, and we take pride in turning the licenses our fans love into wearable fashion. We are currently looking for a junior-level Assistant Designer to join our growing team. If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to help us bring iconic designs to life, you will fit right in with our collaborative culture.
The opportunity
As an Assistant Designer for Licensed Apparel, you will play a vital role in supporting our design and product teams. This is a hands-on position where you will help keep our projects on track while learning the ins and outs of the apparel industry. You will work closely with our Designers and Senior Designers to translate creative concepts into finished products. This position is based in the United States and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring you to be at our headquarters in the City of Industry, California, two days each week.
A day in the life
- You will create detailed technical sketches, CADs, and tech packs with construction callouts for a variety of apparel categories including tops, sweaters, bottoms, jackets, and dresses.
- You will assist with the end-to-end design and development process, which includes maintaining line sheets, organizing reference libraries for fabrics and samples, and filing lab dips.
- You will support the team by preparing materials for trend concept meetings and line reviews, while also taking notes and managing follow-ups during our weekly team syncs.
Who you are
We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and ready to grow their career in design. To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications:
- A college degree in design or a related field.
- At least one year of professional experience working as a design assistant.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A deep understanding of the licenses carried at Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Fluency in English.
Why you'll love it here
We value our people and strive to create a supportive environment where you can do your best work. Beyond the opportunity to work on exciting pop culture projects, you will enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work model, which helps you balance your professional responsibilities with your personal life.
