AI Platform Engineer at Intercom

The role

We are seeking a Senior AI Platform Engineer to join our Builder Tools team on a full-time, hybrid basis. This is a high-impact role based in the United Kingdom or Ireland. You will be responsible for turning Intercom into an AI-first engineering organization by developing the tools and environments that help our engineers work faster and with less friction.

Core responsibilities

• AI-Driven Automation: Design and evolve automation agents that handle routine, high-volume maintenance tasks, such as cleaning up stale feature flags or fixing exceptions, while maintaining human-in-the-loop oversight.
• AI-First Developer Experience: Integrate AI-powered tools into our standard development environments to ensure they are the default for engineers, designers, and product managers.
• AI-Optimized Codebases: Refactor and restructure our code to be more navigable and friendly for AI, ensuring that our internal tools provide high-quality suggestions and accurate outputs.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in software engineering and a passion for improving developer productivity. We are looking for the following qualifications:

• Proven experience building or enabling high-performing engineering teams, ideally within a SaaS or platform environment.
• Hands-on experience with modern AI-powered developer tools, including AI code assistants, agents, or prompt engineering.
• Deep proficiency in at least one major programming language, such as Python or JavaScript.
• A strong focus on developer experience, with a track record of building tools that reduce friction and improve velocity.
• Excellent communication skills and a pragmatic, bias-to-action mindset that prioritizes tangible outcomes over theoretical research.
