AI Engineer at Project A Services GmbH & Co. KG

We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join one of our portfolio companies, a German dual-use technology firm that develops unmanned ground vehicles for automation across governmental and civilian applications. In this on-site role based in Munich, you will design and implement advanced AI systems that enhance how these vehicles perceive and interact with their environment. Your contributions will directly support the company’s mission to deliver reliable, high-performance autonomous solutions.

Key outcomes

• Design, develop, and deploy offline AI solutions that center on computer vision tasks such as object detection, classification, and segmentation.
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of AI models using PyTorch to verify accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Refine existing AI systems to improve performance while respecting computational and hardware limitations.
• Maintain clear documentation of development processes, system configurations, and algorithm performance to support knowledge transfer and regulatory compliance.
• Integrate AI capabilities with hardware components and ensure solutions meet the practical requirements of unmanned ground vehicles.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a closely related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with C++ and the Robot Operating System (ROS).
• Proven track record in AI development with emphasis on computer vision, object detection, classification, and segmentation.
• Proficiency in Python and practical experience with deep learning frameworks, especially PyTorch.
• Strong understanding of machine learning models, including large language models (LLMs) and large multimodal models (LMMs), and their deployment in real-world applications.
• Experience integrating AI solutions with hardware and an appreciation of the associated system constraints.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrated through complex project work.
• Clear and effective communication skills for conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience leading projects and mentoring junior colleagues in AI development practices.
• Familiarity with 3D computer vision techniques, including work with point clouds.
• Eligibility to work within the EU.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience in dual-use or defense-related technology environments.
• Background working with autonomous systems or robotics platforms beyond ROS.
