At xAI we are building AI systems that can understand the universe and help humanity expand its knowledge. Our small, highly motivated team works with a flat structure where every engineer contributes directly to ambitious goals, and leadership comes from those who take initiative and deliver results.
What is this role?
This is a full-time, senior-level Enterprise AI Engineer position based in the United States and offered in a hybrid work arrangement. You will act as the technical lead for high-stakes customer projects, guiding both strategy and hands-on execution in a startup-style environment.
What will you do?
- Own end-to-end delivery of AI solutions by understanding customer pain points, defining product requirements, and building LLM-powered applications that solve real business problems.
- Benchmark models, create evaluations, tune system prompts, and fine-tune models to improve performance for specific customer use cases.
- Analyze usage logs and prompt data, then build internal tools that automate repetitive work and improve the xAI SDKs and documentation based on customer feedback.
What makes you a great fit?
You bring at least six years of software engineering experience and a strong foundation in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, physics, or data science. You are fluent in English and comfortable turning business ideas into production-ready engineering solutions. Hands-on experience implementing AI or machine-learning products that include APIs, back-end services, and front-end interfaces is essential, along with proficiency in Python or TypeScript and a solid understanding of the HTTP protocol.
You thrive in fast-paced settings, communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and enjoy navigating ambiguity while maintaining high standards for code quality and system scalability. Experience building evaluations, deploying models to production, writing developer documentation, creating or maintaining SDKs, or working with large datasets and high-throughput systems will help you stand out, as will familiarity with infrastructure tools such as Pulumi or Terraform.
