At Solestial, we are building the future of energy in orbit. We specialize in ultra-thin silicon solar cells that possess the unique ability to self-cure radiation damage while operating in space. By packaging this technology into flexible, lightweight panels, we are making it possible for satellite constellations and future space infrastructure to thrive for years with minimal degradation. Our approach is defined by mass-production capabilities that drive costs down significantly compared to traditional methods. We are a team of passionate innovators, and we are looking for someone to help us scale our vision for the new space economy.
The opportunity
We are searching for a Tooling Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. In this role, you will bridge the gap between concept and reality by developing the automation systems required for our solar module and wafer processing. You will work directly with our solar module engineers to design, build, and integrate the tools that power our manufacturing. Whether you are working on laser processing, wet chemistry, or robotic PV equipment, your contributions will be essential to our mission of powering space.
A day in the life
- You will translate complex process requirements from our engineering team into functional tool designs using CAD software.
- You will manage the full lifecycle of our automation equipment, which includes programming, assembly, and rigorous validation testing.
- You will collaborate with external equipment manufacturers and internal teams to refine our processes, create standard operating procedures, and train our operators to ensure safety and efficiency.
Who you are
You are an engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys the hands-on nature of electromechanical systems. You have a background in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Robotics Engineering, or a related field like Physics or Materials Science. We are looking for someone with three to eight years of experience in developing automated manufacturing systems. You should be proficient with CAD systems, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and have a strong grasp of building and integrating automation hardware. If you have experience with Python or C programming, or if you have worked with PLCs, you will fit right in. Because our work happens in a class 1,000 clean room, you must be comfortable working in that environment while maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude.
Why you'll love it here
We believe in taking care of our people so they can focus on doing their best work. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports your health and your future.
- High-quality medical, dental, and vision insurance that begins on your first day.
- A generous time-off policy, including at least 20 days of PTO, 5 personal days, and 10 paid holidays each year.
- A 401k plan that includes an employer match of up to 4% of your salary.
- Financial security through employer-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance, as well as employer-sponsored life insurance.
