At Fuel50, we are on a mission to transform the way organizations manage talent and career growth through our innovative SaaS platform. We believe that by empowering individuals to reach their full potential, we can build a more inspired and productive workforce globally. Our team is dedicated to creating a world-class product that solves complex scaling challenges, and we are looking for passionate people who want to help us shape the future of work.
The role
We are seeking a Technical Team Lead to join our engineering department on a full-time basis. This is a senior-level position based in New Zealand, where you will balance hands-on software development with the critical responsibility of coaching and guiding our technical talent. You will report directly to the Head of Engineering and play a pivotal role in the entire product lifecycle, from initial brainstorming and requirements gathering to the successful delivery of features into production.
Core responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of technical experts to ensure they deliver exceptional outcomes while fostering a culture of continuous feedback.
- Architect and develop high-quality, testable code for our SaaS application using modern technologies and best practices.
- Drive technical excellence by managing complex tasks such as system scaling, observability, CI/CD automation, and the transition toward microservices.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in software engineering and a passion for leadership. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- At least 7 years of experience in the software industry, specifically with SaaS architecture and technologies such as Java, MySQL, Hibernate, Jest, Selenium, and JUnit.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a formal people leadership role, with a proven ability to mentor direct reports and build strong working relationships.
- Expertise in participating in architectural reviews, scoping new features, and facilitating technical discussions with clients during the RFP process.
- A valid right to work in New Zealand, such as citizenship or an existing work visa.
Compensation and benefits
We are committed to supporting our team members both personally and professionally. As a Fuellie, you will have access to the following benefits:
- Comprehensive, fully subsidized health insurance through Southern Cross.
- Participation in our Employee Stock Options Plan (ESOP).
- Generous time off, including a day off for your birthday, your work anniversary, a company-wide celebration day, and a quarterly "Refuel Day."
- Flexible working hours and remote work options to help you balance family, school commitments, and life events.
- A progressive parental leave policy that provides additional time and flexibility beyond government mandates.
- Ongoing career development through our internal Fuel50 software and Fuellie University.
- Monthly social events at our Takapuna headquarters, including pizza nights, table tennis, and pool.
