At Outreach, we believe our success depends on building teams that bring together people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We value fresh perspectives and are committed to hiring the whole person rather than just a resume. We encourage you to apply even if you do not feel you meet every single requirement listed here, as we do not want a list of qualifications to stand in the way of us meeting you. Our Dev Tooling team acts as the engine behind our operations, building the systems and frameworks that keep our software development running smoothly. We own everything from developer environments and CI/CD pipelines to observability and shared libraries, providing a unique environment where you can balance quick wins with long-term technical investments.
About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join us on a full-time basis. This position is specifically focused on supporting the critical shared components and frameworks of our primary monolith application. As this codebase handles the majority of our revenue-generating operations, your work will have a direct and significant impact on the company. You will act as a specialist in Ruby and Ruby on Rails while collaborating with a team of generalists to improve developer productivity and system reliability across the entire organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end multi-service integration test frameworks that function effectively both locally and within our CI pipelines.
- Develop standardized Kubernetes deployment patterns and build reliable core service libraries that allow feature teams to focus on business logic.
- Establish best practices and create libraries for monitoring production systems to ensure high availability and health.
Requirements
We are looking for a senior-level engineer who brings a deep technical background and a collaborative mindset. You should have experience with the following:
- Expertise in Golang, which is used extensively by our team.
- Proficiency in Ruby, TypeScript, and Python.
- Strong experience with container-based workflows, specifically Kubernetes.
- A proven track record of working on build systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience maintaining shared libraries, including those within the open-source community.
- Background in building production monitoring solutions to track service health.
Location
This is a remote position, and you are welcome to work from anywhere.
Compensation and Benefits
We are proud to offer a flexible work environment that prioritizes your well-being and productivity. The primary benefit for this role is remote work, allowing you to contribute to our mission from a location that suits your lifestyle.
