We are looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to strengthen our recommendation systems and help connect hundreds of millions of users with the most relevant content on Quora.
Responsibilities
- Improve existing machine learning systems by applying strong coding and ML expertise.
- Spot new opportunities to bring machine learning into additional areas of the Quora product.
- Collaborate with other machine learning engineers to design and implement algorithms and systems efficiently.
- Own machine learning systems from end to end, including data pipelines, candidate extraction, feature engineering, model training, and production integration.
Must-haves
- 5+ years of professional software development experience in machine learning.
- 3+ years of professional experience building recommendation systems.
- Solid grasp of the mathematical foundations behind machine learning algorithms.
- Experience designing and shipping complete, end-to-end machine learning systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Availability during coordination hours (Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm Pacific Time) for meetings and real-time collaboration.
- Proficiency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- 3+ years of experience writing production code in Python or C++.
- Experience leading large-scale, multi-engineer projects.
- Track record as a flexible, positive team contributor.

US candidates: $219,989 – $320,613 USD + equity + benefits.
Canada candidates (Toronto/Vancouver): $288,502 – $336,370 CAD + equity + benefits.
Canada candidates (other locations): $269,269 – $313,946 CAD + equity + benefits.
