Staff Engineer - User Activities at AlphaSense Helsinki

The opportunity

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our User Activities team. This group is the backbone of collaboration within our platform, managing the features that allow users to bookmark, highlight, comment, and tag critical insights. In this role, you will be the technical anchor for these features, ensuring that our tools are not only intuitive but also highly scalable. You will bridge the gap between complex technical architecture and user-facing productivity, working closely with product and business stakeholders to shape our roadmap and deliver a seamless experience for our growing user base.

A day in the life

• Lead technical strategy by architecting robust, scalable solutions and proactively identifying risks to ensure our services remain high-performing.
• Collaborate across departments to refine project roadmaps, manage capacity, and provide accurate delivery forecasts that align with our broader business objectives.
• Mentor and empower your fellow engineers by fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, championing documentation practices, and resolving blockers to keep the team moving forward.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer who thrives on taking full ownership of services from design to production. You communicate clearly in English and bring a deep technical background to the table. Your toolkit includes:

• Expertise in the Java ecosystem and Spring-based applications.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Hands-on experience with containerization, cloud infrastructure, and GraphQL.
• A solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design principles.
• A proven ability to write clear technical documentation and RFCs.
