At Interstellar Lab, we design, manufacture, and operate controlled-environment biofarms that combine hardware, artificial intelligence, and bioscience to help plants, fungi, and microorganisms grow faster and more efficiently. Our technology supports molecular and bio-farming on Earth for leading companies in beauty, perfume, natural ingredients, food and beverage, and nutraceuticals, while also delivering bio-farming units for space agencies and private space companies to grow food and conduct research in microgravity. We are now looking for a Senior HVAC and Controlled-Environment Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in France and take ownership of the climate-control systems that power our next-generation BioPods and bio-farming solutions.
Key outcomes
- Lead HVAC systems engineering from initial design through final assembly for all BioPods and bio-farming products.
- Translate product-level requirements into detailed HVAC component and system specifications.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate HVAC components while meeting spatial and performance constraints.
- Apply fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat-transfer principles to design tubing, piping, and ductwork systems.
- Define the physical layout of fluid systems in coordination with other engineering disciplines.
- Work with cross-functional teams to increase automation within climate-control systems.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for installed HVAC equipment.
- Manage suppliers and internal projects to deliver HVAC solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Maintain accurate project schedules and communicate milestone status to engineers, contractors, fabricators, and stakeholders.

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- At least seven years of professional experience designing and working with fluid systems, hydraulics, and HVAC systems.
- At least five years of experience in controlled-environment agriculture or indoor farming.
- Expertise in 3D modeling of fluid systems.
- Proven experience with CATIA/3DExperience or comparable CAD software.
- Expertise in running CFD analysis and simulating HVAC performance.
- Hands-on experience with SIMULIA or similar CFD software.
- Direct experience operating and troubleshooting complex fluid or mechanical systems in professional environments.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Ability to move fluidly between detailed design work and hands-on assembly or testing activities.
- Experience designing HVAC systems for high-reliability applications.
- Practical experience with fluid-system assembly, operation, and testing.
