At Interstellar Lab we design, manufacture and operate controlled-environment biofarms that combine hardware, AI and bioscience to help plants, fungi and microorganisms grow faster and better. Our technology supports molecular and bio-farming on Earth for leading companies in beauty, perfume, natural ingredients, food and beverage, and nutraceuticals, while also delivering bio-farming units to space agencies and private space companies for astronaut nutrition and microgravity research. We are now looking for an experienced engineer to strengthen the team that keeps these unique environments running at peak performance on Earth and in space.
About the Role
Sr HVAC and Controlled-Environment Engineer – Full Time, on-site position. You will lead the design, optimisation and control of HVAC systems for our BioPods and other bio-farming solutions, working with an international, cross-functional group of engineers, designers and scientists to deliver next-generation controlled-environment greenhouses.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage HVAC systems engineering from initial design through final assembly, including the creation of component and system-level requirements.
- Apply fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and heat-transfer principles to design tubing, piping and ductwork systems, and collaborate with mechanical engineers on physical layouts and packaging.
- Drive project execution by managing suppliers, maintaining schedules, reporting milestones and increasing system automation in partnership with the wider engineering team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Seven or more years of professional experience with fluid systems, hydraulics and HVAC systems, including at least five years in controlled-environment agriculture or indoor farming.
- Expertise in 3D modeling of fluid systems and demonstrated experience with CATIA/3DExperience or similar CAD software.
- Proven ability to run CFD analysis and simulate HVAC systems using SIMULIA or comparable tools, plus hands-on experience with complex fluid or mechanical systems in a professional setting.
Location
This position is based in France.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a collaborative and fast-paced work environment where you can move between design and hands-on tasks while contributing to projects that advance sustainable agriculture on Earth and support life beyond our planet.
