Code.org is a nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science and artificial intelligence. As the leading provider of K-12 computer science curriculum in the largest school districts across the United States, we also organize the global Hour of Code campaign, which has reached over 15% of all students worldwide. We are currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about education and wants to help us increase participation in computer science, particularly among young women and underrepresented groups.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a diverse, agile team of 4 to 8 software engineers to foster an inclusive and productive work environment.
- Collaborate with product managers, curriculum writers, and leadership to execute technical strategies that deliver accessible and engaging learning experiences.
- Oversee the development of sustainable software, ensuring a balance between feature delivery and site reliability for our millions of global users.
Requirements
- Proven experience in people management, specifically in hiring, building, and developing diverse engineering teams.
- Strong professional background in software engineering, allowing you to provide architectural guidance and technical mentorship.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project planning, balance technical trade-offs, and deliver high-scale web products on schedule.
- Familiarity with technologies such as TypeScript, React, Ruby on Rails, SQL, and AWS is preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, reside within the United States, and be willing to travel at least twice per year for team events.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
What we offer
The expected salary range for this position is $174,000 to $193,000. We provide a comprehensive benefits package for our full-time staff, which includes:
