We are Barley, a venture-backed startup dedicated to transforming how organizations manage compensation. Most companies currently rely on manual, convoluted spreadsheet processes that leave leadership guessing and employees feeling uncertain about their pay. Our platform provides a modern solution for everything from salary band management to pay equity analysis, helping businesses make smarter, fairer decisions. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time, hybrid basis. While we are a remote-first company, we maintain office hubs in Toronto and Vancouver for those who enjoy in-person collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop new features and solve complex technical challenges to scale our compensation management platform.
- Work within an agile environment, partnering closely with product managers and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality code.
- Focus on robust database design, data schemas, and analytics while proactively identifying ways to improve our business context and reduce technical risk.
Requirements
We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in software development and a genuine curiosity for learning new technologies. You should be comfortable working with modern web stacks and have a collaborative mindset.
- Professional experience with web development technologies including TypeScript, ReactJS, GraphQL, Node.js, Vite, NestJS, or Hasura.
- Solid experience in schema design and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- A track record of shipping cloud-based software products is highly valued.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, serverless environments, containerization like Docker, and CI/CD pipelines is considered a strong asset.
What we offer
We believe in transparency and equitable pay, and we are pleased to offer a base salary range of $100,000 to $130,000 for this position. Beyond the salary, we provide a comprehensive package to support your well-being and professional growth:
- Participation in our stock option plan, so you have a true stake in our success.
- Generous paid time off and a flexible remote and hybrid work environment.
- An annual learning budget to help you invest in your professional development.
- The opportunity to be an early member of a growing team that values collaboration, including team dinners and off-site retreats.
