At BuildZoom, we are on a mission to modernize the massive 1.2 trillion dollar construction and remodeling industry. By acting as a managed marketplace, we guide clients through complex residential and commercial projects, turning their visions into reality while ensuring transparency and accountability. Our impact is significant, as evidenced by the 12 billion dollars in construction projects we supported in 2024 alone. We are a data-driven organization, leveraging vast amounts of industry information to build analytics and recommendation engines that are redefining how construction gets done.
The role
We are looking for a mid-level Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. Because we operate as a small, fast-growing engineering group, this position offers the opportunity to wear many hats. You will work in a remote capacity, though please note that this specific role is based in New Zealand, and all applicants must possess the legal right to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Core responsibilities
- Contribute across our entire technical stack, including front-end and back-end web development, mobile applications, infrastructure, and data engineering.
- Collaborate on product strategy and growth initiatives that align with your personal strengths and professional interests.
- Help us maintain and evolve our bleeding-edge data ingestion framework to ensure we continue to hold the most complete data sets in the industry.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should bring a generalist mindset and a passion for solving complex problems. We require the following qualifications:
- At least 2 years of professional, hands-on experience working within a team-based software engineering environment.
- Proficiency with ReactJS and Ruby on Rails.
- A strong interest in expanding your expertise across web development, DevOps, and data engineering.
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- A commitment to our core values, including a drive to democratize construction, a dedication to self-improvement, and a scrappy, tenacious approach to overcoming obstacles.
Compensation and benefits
We believe in supporting our team members with a flexible environment that allows for high-quality work. The primary benefit for this position is the ability to work remotely.
