What’s commerce built for passion? It’s a fair question, especially since EQL is the first of its kind.
We're building commerce for brands that don't just have customers, they have fans. Where the passion that surrounds products is off the charts, but also means the experience has traditionally gone off the rails with lackluster experience—sites crashing, bad actors, empty carts. If you’ve ever tried to get your hands on a pair of Jordans, coveted handbags, Taylor Swift tickets, or a ticket to a footy final, you know what happens next.
Fans and bots rush the retailer’s site. The thing you thought you had in your cart disappears. You desperately click ‘next’, and after staring at a spinner for the longest time, you get forcibly logged out and end up back on the homepage. Five minutes later, you’ve got a pending charge on your credit card but nothing to show for it. Soon you’ll be turning to the resale market in desperation…
This is where EQL comes in. We’re on a mission to build the world’s first and fairest launch platform for both fans and retailers.
Our platform helps global brands and retailers maximize these high-intensity retail moments. We provide hype-scale infrastructure, bot and scammer detection and robust checkout management so that sites don’t crash, scammers are squeezed out, and REAL fans win. We do this using a bunch of extremely cool and innovative technologies, and we’re constantly iterating to improve the fan experience. We’ve raised capital from leading VCs and angel investors across the world who believe in our mission and who are as excited about solving this pain for our customers as we are.

We're looking for a passionate Software Engineer to join our Fans team! In this role, you'll collaborate with talented individuals to develop and enhance a range of systems powering our Fans app. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to both the backend infrastructure and the frontend user experience, making a real impact on how our fans connect and engage through the world of hot product launches. We know there's a lot that goes into a role like this, including;
- Consistently write well tested and simple code to solve complex problems
- Design and build high-quality systems in technologies such as Typescript, Node, GraphQL and AWS services (in particular serverless architecture)
- Contribute to agile ceremonies, offering suggestions in daily stand-ups, retrospectives and other team meetings
- Pair Program with your teammates, review pull requests and provide feedback
- Participate in code reviews and provide feedback in a clear and respectful manner
- Contribute to the ongoing support of product releases in production
- Develop and support build pipelines and infrastructure, and own your systems in production
- Contribute to engineering guilds, actively sharing knowledge, ideas and experience
- Use written, verbal and visual communication to facilitate technical discussion and share ideas
- Participate in an on-call rotation, supporting the team's system in production
- Play an active role in building an incredible team culture of inclusion, collaboration and psychological safety.
- Have a few years in commercial software development using modern Javascript frameworks within a hyper-growth or fast-paced company or startup
- Some exposure to serverless architecture and DevOps in the cloud (preferably AWS)
- Have experience writing tests and following clean code practices
- Are a motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced, fast-growth environment and who enjoys collaborating with an open mind and heart
- Are passionate about all things software engineering and enjoy solving complex problems with an out of the box approach to challenge existing assumptions and achieve the best results
- Have a customer-first mindset and love working in a cross-functional team that creates awesome experiences for our customers
