Software Engineer at Whereby

What is this role?

We are seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. This is a backend-focused, full-stack role where you will play a vital part in how we build and operate our product. You will report directly to our Head of Engineering and collaborate with a global, distributed team. Please note that because many of our team members are based in Europe, you will generally need to have at least 4 hours of work overlap with CET and GMT time zones.

What will you do?

• Develop new product capabilities while ensuring our platform remains secure, scalable, and reliable for millions of users worldwide.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to iterate on features, analyze user data, and solve real-world problems.
• Write performant, high-quality code using Node.js and React, while utilizing AWS, Docker, and Terraform to deploy and maintain our infrastructure.

What makes you a great fit?

We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of professional experience as a full-stack developer, specifically with a strong focus on backend systems. You should have a proven track record of making an impact within a SaaS product environment. We value candidates who are self-driven, communicate effectively, and enjoy working in a collaborative, cross-functional setting.

Your technical toolkit should include:

• Proficiency in JavaScript, specifically Node.js and React.
• Experience designing and managing robust APIs.
• A disciplined approach to coding, including writing tests and maintaining clear documentation.
• A strong commitment to information security principles.
• Bonus points if you have experience with Redis, WebSockets, or cloud operations tools like AWS, Docker, and Terraform.
