Magic is building safe AGI to accelerate progress on humanity’s most critical challenges. We pursue this goal by automating research and code generation, combining frontier-scale pre-training, domain-specific reinforcement learning, ultra-long context, and inference-time compute to improve models and solve alignment more reliably than humans can alone.
The role
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our post-training data infrastructure team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. In this position you will design and operate the systems that gather, filter, and maintain the large-scale datasets used to teach our models targeted capabilities after pre-training.
Core responsibilities
- Design and implement robust data pipelines that move information reliably from collection through processing at scales ranging from gigabytes to hundreds of petabytes.
- Collaborate with research and applied teams to identify, source, and curate diverse post-training datasets that develop specific model capabilities.
- Create and refine filtering, scoring, and synthetic-data generation methods that maintain high data quality while supporting rapid iteration.
Skills and experience
We look for engineers who combine deep technical skill with a strong commitment to data quality. You should be comfortable building end-to-end pipelines that span scraping, cleaning, and serving workloads, and you should write reliable, well-tested code that others can depend on. The ability to learn new tools and frameworks quickly is essential, as is the intellectual agility and persistence needed to tackle open-ended data challenges. English proficiency is required for collaboration across the team.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary range for this role is $225K–$550K, with equity forming a significant portion of total compensation. Additional benefits include a 401(k) plan with 6% salary matching, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, unlimited paid time off, visa sponsorship, and a relocation stipend to help you join our San Francisco team.
How to apply
If you are excited by the opportunity to build the data foundations that will help us deploy safe AGI, we encourage you to apply. We value quick learners who bring both skill and determination, and we look forward to reviewing your application.
