Software Engineer, Infrastructure at VTS

We are seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our platforms and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems.

Your days will include working with software engineers on our product lines, collaborating with support and quality engineers to troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and working closely on AWS, Kubernetes, and Istio, among other tools. You will face a new and exciting challenge involving pair programming, software reliability engineering, and security every day.

To thrive in this role, you should have a good understanding of AWS services and be familiar with Kubernetes and Istio service mesh administration. You must also continuously keep up to date with tools and services that will help the company address business needs through efficient and highly available infrastructure. 

Please note: This role will be hybrid in-office in our Toronto office 2-3 days a week.

Here’s what you can expect as a Platform Infrastructure engineer:

• Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure solutions on AWS. Confidence in troubleshooting VPC networking issues.
• Develop and automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and monitoring processes.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications.
• Monitor and optimize system performance, reliability, and security.
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices in infrastructure and platform engineering.
• Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio administration.
• Being curious by diving deep into different tech stacks when needed. As a polyglot company, the candidate will be the best fit if eager to learn popular languages and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Golang, NodeJs, Java, and PHP.

To thrive in this role you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, SRE, or related roles.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python or Bash (we also use GoLang).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions, Circle CI and Jenkins.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
